Vine History

Organized in 1890 as the Vine Street Congregational Church at 25th and Vine Streets, the congregation moved into its new building at 1800 Twin Ridge Road in 1958.  Vine Church is part of the United Church of Christ, a  two million member denomination formed in 1957 through a merger of the Congregational Christian Churches and the Evangelical and Reformed Church.

The UCC is proud of its open and inclusive spirit.  The membership of Vine church represents diverse theological and social beliefs within mainstream Protestant tradition.

United Church of Christ

Our denomination is called “The United Church of Christ,” which is a progressive, cutting edge, love-centered denomination.  The United Church of Christ is a denomination of “firsts”... we were the first denomination to ordain a woman into ministry, the first denomination to lobby for freedom of African Americans from slavery (see the Amistad History,) and the first to ordain an openly gay minister.  You can learn all about the United Church of Christ denomination by visiting www.ucc.org.
